Is the Schweizer Kammerchor a permanent ensemble?
We are at the moment working on a project basis, i.e. the choristers are engaged anew for each project. In the short time of our existence (founded in 1997) we have not yet been able to establish lasting finance allowing us to offer a firm engagement to our singers. We are however making every effort to ensure a constant cast. Nevertheless, the participating singers vary to a certain degree, and you may often discover a new face among us.
Can I join the Schweizer Kammerchor?
We organise auditions for interested singers at irregular intervals. If you have a trained voice, a good sight-reading ability, and if you are flexible with your other commitments, then why don’t you just send us your short curriculum vitae, listing your training and experience (Contact).
Our artistic director will decide according to your information whether you will be invited to the next audition.
What’s the content of the audition?
You are presenting two to three pieces of your choice from opera, oratorio or lied, if possible from different epochs. From us you receive an invitation with two compulsory scores which you have to prepare for the audition. You are singing to our artistic director, Mr Fritz Näf, who decides whether you are qualified for the Schweizer Kammerchor. You will be informed in writing after the audition. We always engage an experienced and versed accompanist. You may however bring your own. Travel and accommodation expenses caused by the audition can’t be reimbursed, but we are pleased to help you find a suitable hotel, if needed. The auditions are also open to participants of the Schweizer Kammerchor who would like to present improvements of their voice.

Where are the Schweizer Kammerchor’s rehearsals held?
Since the main emphasis of our work is put on the collaboration with the Tonhalle Zurich and our office is in Zurich, too, the major part of our rehearsals take place in Zurich. Are the concerts in some other town, at least the general rehearsals are held there.
